I feel like Satyen Kappu in Deewar after he comes out having signed the documents - “Main tum logon ko bech kar aa raha hoon”. At any moment I expect someone to tattoo on my arm “Mera critic chor hai”. Saw “Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar” on Netflix and I liked it more than I had any business to. Granted I went in with low expectations and maybe that was a factor. Not saying it’s a masterpiece or anything but it was a good time pass. It’s a rom com with a clever new angle to it and the ensemble cast around Ranbir and Shraddha help them up their game. Of them all (standup comedian Bassi, Dimple, Boney Kapoor, Hasleen Kaur etc) tiny Inayat Verma steals the show. Luv Ranjan has created a genre of his own with the cynical rom com like Pyaar ka Punchnama (2011) and Sonu ke Titu ke Sweety (2018) but in this one he shows some of his softer side. And there are some nice callbacks to those movies with cameos by Kartik Aryan and Nushratt Bharucha. Songs are quite good especially Tere Pyaar mein.
All in all may not be everyone’s liking but dil chahta hai bas bheege bheege bheege.
